Pretzels!

Today the children and I made pretzels!  It was super easy and tons of fun!  We got lots of interesting shapes!  Near the end I finally started to perfect the way they should be rolled out and folded.  Everyone thinks they taste really good.  I'm not much of a pretzel fan but these were pretty tasty!

All finished!

Glycogen Storage Disease

UPDATE: After more tests and Jhet's liver biopsy results we found out that Jhet has GSD type 9 not 1a.
Most of you know that Jhet was admitted to UNC Chidlren's hospital a week and a half ago. At his 9 mos check up the Dr. had some concerns about his growth. One thing led to another and here we are...lol. Jhet was diagnosed with Glycogen Storage Disease type 1 A.In order for Jhet to have this disease Shane and I have to be carries of this. Usually it is very unlikely that two carrries marry. But that's what happened with us. Setting our children up for a 1 in 4 chance (25%) of getting this disease. Obviously Mycah and Trin came out ok, but Jhet fell into that 25% chance. It's a rare disease with only about 1 baby a year in NC being born with this disease.
So, in a nutshell, Jhet is missing an enzyme that helps break down certain types of surgars. It has caused him to have an enlarged liver and slowed his growth. People who have this disease have to eat frequent meals to help them keep their energy and stay away from certain foods. Foods containing galactose, fructose, and certain other sugars have to be avoided since their livers can not use these surgars. So Jhet can have no fruit, dairy, or sweets that contain these surgars. In addition we have to keep an eye on Jhet's bloodsugar levels and make sure they don't drop to low. Jhet had to have a feeding tube placed in his stomach and a liver biopsy done so we can make sure of the type of GSD he has. Jhet will need the feeding tube for around 1-2 years or so. He only needs to use it at night. He has to have constant feeding to ensure his bloodsugar levels stay at a healthy level. Prior to going to the hospital his level over night dropped to 38... the Dr. said if ours had dropped that low we would be unconcious. Anyways there is a lot more to it, but that's all I can explain for now. But with the right diet and frequent meals, Jhet should live and grow normally :)

Jhet

Please keep my baby in your payers.  It seems that he may have liver disease or something else wrong with his liver.  Our Dr.  is trying to get an appointment scheduled with a specialist Monday.  Pray we get an appointment soon!

First Cart Cover Attempt

Here is my first cart cover. I looked at some pics and just kinda "winged" it. I think I made the leg openings to big. This cover is being demonstrated on a Food Lion cart. But I think the Walmart carts are alot "deeper" than this one. So we'll have to see. This is the first time Jhet has ever sat in a cart. To bad we only came to get the pictures and didn't actually "use" the cart...lol. I also wanted this so we would have a cover for the highchairs when we go out to eat.

I still have to add the seat belt to this which will be happening with in the next month or so.

The contrasting fabric on the other side of this is green.

Trin's Latest Purse

Here is Trin with her newest purse. The Grandma of her three best friends made her this purse so she would have one like her friends! She loves having a purse that is the same as Mya and Tira. Thanks so much Cindy, she loves it!

Trin's New Gown

Here is a pair of pajamas I have been working on for weeks. Slowly cutting out a piece here and a piece there. Sewing it a little bit at a time. But I finally finished it and she loves it. I want to get some more fabric and make her a few more.

Today's Embellished Prefolds

Well, today is really rainy outside so I decided to do some sewing. I went ahead and added some stuff to my prefolds. I have ordered more diaper making material and I'm hoping it comes today so I can work on some of my other diapers.
Katie (the baby doll), was kind enough to model these prefolds for us :)

Crappy picture :(

Mycah wanted to take a picture so he took one of Trin and Katie.

Another New Dress

Here is another dress like the purple one I made for Trin. This was the original fabric Trin had picked out, but then she saw the purple and chose that. Well, since the fabric was 60% off and they were practically giving it away I went back and got it and made her another dress similar to her other.

This one does not have folds at the bottom, but instead I put ruffles.

Here is Batman and the Plum fairy playing with some homemade play dough I made for them this morning. They love this stuff. Especially using the rolling pin and cookie cutters.

Batman holding up something he made...can't remember now what it was.

Close up of the Plum fairy.

Still working hard.

Do Five Year Olds Knit?...

....I don't know, but here's mine trying. Mycah has been wanting me to teach him how to knit for a long time, but I keep telling him no he has to be a little older. But then he said, "I know how...you stick it through and wrap it around". He was kinda accurate so I thought well...why not let him try? So I casted on for him and got him started him. He did a good job, the only thing hard for him was trying to hold both kneedles and wrap the yarn. He got the idea and was doing it pretty good. He may be able to do it if he keeps practicing, but he lost intrest after about 20 mins of trying...lol.

My cutie still trying :)

Pillow #1

Here is Mycah holding his new quilted pillow to go with his quilt. This is the first one of three I will be making. I had wanted to put piping on this one, but didn't have any. I will put it on the other two though. He loves this one because of the "zig zags" and because he loves the green fabric because it looks like "targets". This one was made from left over scraps from his quilt as will the other two as well.

Future Quilter!

Here is Trin on my bed looking at my quilting books while I was finishing up the table topper. She was looking at the pictures and telling me what I "needed"...marking pens, saftey pins....lol. It was so cute. I told her to hold on and I went to grab the camera and this is what I got.
